Intelligent Mail Barcode
The post office is implementing a new barcode called the intelligent mail barcode. With this new barcode there will be a lot of positive changes, but it may also have one inconvenience for your business. The new barcodes will be able to identify the sender’s information and whether it’s a priority or first class mailing. This will help the USPS route the mail piece. Not only that, you will be able to track your mail piece as it moves through to its destination. The inconvenience is the business reply envelopes. For the new barcodes to have all of this information you need ID codes for your company. This includes BRE’s. Effective in May of 2011, in order to receive the full postal discount, you will need to have these codes on the reply envelopes for any direct mailing including a BRE.
